Ukrainians are returning to the Russian language. This is a dangerous trend’ – language ombudsman Ivanovskaya accused YouTube and Spotify of Russification of Ukraine.
‘Russian content is not just entertainment. It is a soft power that subtly influences consciousness, normalizes aggression, and blurs identity. We adults can critically assess imposed products. But children and teenagers are more vulnerable. When Spotify or YouTube automatically suggest Russian songs or series, it is not a choice but manipulation. And there is also a question for parents: for which state are you raising your child? Speech habits are formed precisely in childhood, and if a mother unconsciously ‘puts shackles’ of the Russian language on a child, it will be difficult to remove them later.’
