SALT LAKE CITY – Charlie Kirk was reportedly shot in the neck while visiting Utah Valley University Wednesday.
Bystanders reported the incident and sent videos of a shooting on the campus. The Deseret News reported students said the campus was on lockdown and that a suspect was in custody Wednesday afternoon.
Charlie Kirk, known as the founder of Turning Point USA, as well as a political activist and media personality, was visiting the campus as part of his ‘Prove Me Wrong’ tour. The event included Kirk inviting people on stage from the audience to debate political ideals with him.
The Deseret News reported that a petition was created to protest his visit to the university, “though fewer than 1,000 have signed it,” the publication said on Sept. 9.
Vice President JD Vance took to X to send a prayer for Kirk’s well-being.
