Reports suggest Cambodia may also have some FN-6 (modern Chi

The FN-6 (FeiNu-6) is a Chinese third-generation MANPADS designed by China National Precision Machinery Import and Export Corporation (CNPMIEC). It’s one of the most modern portable air-defense systems used by several countries, including reports suggesting Cambodia has some FN-6 units through Chinese military aid.

FN-6 Key Specs

  • Type: Infrared homing MANPADS

  • Range: 500 m – 6 km

  • Altitude: Up to 3.8–4 km

  • Missile Speed: ~600 m/s

  • Seeker: Passive IR, with better countermeasure resistance than older systems

  • Weight: ~16 kg launch tube, ~11 kg missile

  • Warhead: ~1.15 kg HE-fragmentation

Capabilities

  • Targets low-flying aircraft and helicopters (e.g., attack helos, transport planes).

  • Can engage subsonic jets during approach/departure at low altitude.

  • Resistant to some flares and heat countermeasures, more advanced than older SA-7/HN-5.

Cambodia & FN-6

  • Cambodia reportedly received a small number of FN-6 units via Chinese military assistance in recent years (unconfirmed estimates: dozens of launchers).

  • Deployment likely focuses on border defense and key installations.

  • Cambodia does not have integrated radar-based SAM systems, so FN-6 is its most modern air-defense weapon.
