It’s hard to believe that Trump and Elon Musk have ended up in such an ugly public fight. Not long ago, they were allies. Musk donated millions to Trump’s campaign and attended his inauguration. I have mixed feelings about their falling-out. 这在中文里是叫做“酒肉朋友”吗?
On one hand, I didn’t vote for Trump, and I was always uneasy about the transactional nature of their alliance, built more on political and monetary convenience than shared values. Our constitutional law should be amended to classify the act of oligarchs sending checks to voters for political campaign purposes as an impropriety. On the other hand, I couldn’t help but hope that if these two incredibly influential men were genuine patriots—as they claimed -- they might combine their power to bring about real, positive change for our country and the world.
But the fallout happened so fast, so ugly, so personal, so unprofessional, so low, almost like an abrupt plot twist. I was shocked to see how quickly their supporters turned on each other, with both sides flinging accusations and kompromat like a political soap opera. Now, with 80% of respondents saying they support Musk’s idea of forming a new political party,
I can’t help but wonder: Is this what our country has come to? Are we really witnessing one of the most bizarre and saddest chapters in our history? Aren’t we ashamed that these are the kinds of leaders we have?
Where are we headed? Are we going broke, not just economically, but morally and politically?
