a criminal's iPhone at the request of the FBI or CIA, standing firm on the principle of user privacy, I believe a university, especially one as renowned and respected as Harvard, must uphold its academic and ethical standards.
Universities like Harvard admit students based on academic merit and institutional criteria, not political affiliation or background. It is not the role of an educational institution to conduct political background checks on applicants.
That responsibility lies with the appropriate government agencies. Law enforcement departments and U.S. embassies abroad have the authority and tools to vet visa applicants and deny entry if necessary. It is neither the duty nor the right of a university to investigate or disclose a student’s political background.
Academic freedom and independence must not be compromised!
