Homelessness data in the United States come from annual point-in-time (PIT) counts, where local volunteers spread out to count the sheltered and unsheltered population experiencing homelessness on a single night in January. In 2024, there were approximately 771,400 homeless individuals in the country, an increase of 118,300.
