Chung, who immigrated from South Korea at age seven, has filed a lawsuit to fight the revocation of her permanent resident status. Judge Buchwald’s decision temporarily protects her while her case is ongoing.
Chung is a lawful U.S. resident and is facing threats of deportation following her participation in pro-Palestinian demonstrations. Immigration agents have repeatedly searched for Chung, visiting her residence and Columbia University’s campus.
Chung said, “After the constant dread in the back of my mind over the past few weeks, this decision feels like a million pounds off of my chest. I feel like I could fly.”
