Governance Structure of SWIFT

Governance Structure of SWIFT:

1. Owned by Members – SWIFT is a cooperative owned by more than 11,000 banks and financial institutions from over 200 countries.

2. Board of Directors – A Board of Directors oversees SWIFT’s operations. It consists of 25 independent directors who represent different financial institutions globally.

3. National Bank Oversight – SWIFT is overseen by the National Bank of Belgium (NBB) in cooperation with G10 central banks, including:

   • The U.S. Federal Reserve

   • The European Central Bank (ECB)

   • The Bank of England

   • The Bank of Japan

   • The Bank of Canada

   • And others
