CCTV has several channels. Suggestion: each channel organizes its own one and let audiences choose during the new year eve. I think there are enough good performers there for all these channels to select. This way will make them compete and produce really good stuff. Another thing is that the major difference between the recent 晚会 and the old ones in the 80's is that the performers are more fiancially driven than before. For examples, the singers want to use this as a good opportunities to sell their new songs for their CDs later. To my opinion, in 晚会, singers should sing more well-known and liked/populated songs than new songs. To me, when I hear many times of a "new good" song, I then become like it and desire to hear it even more times. "晚会" for audiences is more like a "reunion" at home and talking about the past is a major part. Old songs can help to re-call our good memories.
