"The Brilliance of a Jar"
The jar is made of clay, perhaps once glazed,
But time wields its butcher's knife.
Surely, it's just an earthly vessel,
Once nurturing goldfish, once cradling water plants.
The wind brought dust, like the savings of time,
Grass sprouted atop, a small bit of interest.
Autumn leaves arrived too—a sudden windfall,
One leaf, then another.
Hosting their dance is a hollow heart,
Year after year,
No longer guarded,
No longer counting gains or losses.
