看到文化聊画，跟着聊一个最近读的Michelangelo and the Pope's ceiling

讲的是1508-1512这4年之间他怎样画的Sistine chapel的房顶的壁画。其中最有名的是the Creation of Adam.

 

同时代的画家Raphael 也在Sistine chapel同一个时间段作画，the Sistine Madonna.

 

俩者风格的不同，在200年后的后人总结说是：Sublime vs. Beautiful. M 艺术风格是Sublime, R艺术风格是Beautiful 

Beautiful: being pleasing to the senses

Sublime: invoking an overwhelming Loftiness or Vastness, either in ideas, art, nature or experience 

 

马上联想到了瑜伽。瑜伽流派很多，比如Vinyasa yoga就是很有力量，是一种Sublime；而舞韵瑜伽则是柔，是beautiful.

 

这本书一半讲的是Michelangelo, 另一半讲的是同时代的教皇Julius II. 原来这位教皇被称为Warrior Pope, 总忙着带兵去战场跟法国人打，争夺意大利的土地，哪怕生病也让人抬着他上战场。非常Fascinating! 最近因为Game of thrones, 让我对中世纪很好奇，连着一本又一本的在读，觉得中世纪远远不是dark age, 而是一个奇妙的年代。回头再来聊
