Do u have administrator right on desktop pc??

If u do then try the following:
1. Uninstall and reinstall the network drivers of both
2. Rerun the network wizard
3. Give each pc an ip address, don't use 192.168.0.1 or
192.168.0.2 use whatever else.coz the first one is normally the default address for router and the latter is normally the default addresss for dns server
4. Restart the pcs and check again
