Compaq does't producce HDDs. Instead, the company order large quantity of HDDs from specialty manuafcturor such as Quantum, Maxtor, etc.. These disks(OEM) are specially made for Comapq. They can be used as general purpose HDDs. But Compaq won't let you boot from generic HDDs on Comapq machine. It make no sense to format or copy OS file from other machines provided it can not be recognized on Comapq machine.


Anyway, It's hard.
