you really should go through VPN on your company PC at home. if it is slow then get the wide band connection.
if your company IT allows you to use your home PC(which I highly doubt they would, due to security reason) then they need to add your home PC (computer name, user id, etc) on company domain and your home PC needs to be configured to be able to logon to your company network. in another word, your home PC would become network/logon configured just like your company PC. as far as bypassing VPN, i don't think you could since your company network should be behind a firewall.
you will HAVE TO talk to the person/IT whoever sets up the company network for detail configuration.
