I don't like white either

Right click "Desktop" then click "Properties" ->
"Appearance" tab -> "Advanced" button -> "Item"
drop-down menu -> choose "Window" -> In "Color1"
drop-down menu, choose/define whatever color you
want. Be sure to click "OK" -> "Apply" after that.

Then go to IE -> "Tools" -> "Internet Options" ->
"Colors..." button -> Check "Use Windows colors".

For FireFox. Click "Tools" -> "Options" -> "General"
-> "Fonts & Colors" -> Check "Use system colors"

Yor're all set.
