2.5 for laptop 3.5 for desktop

Obviously, the size is different so they can be used for different application, one in laptop and the other one in desktop PC. I doubt the interfaces of these two types are different.

If you are considering to buy an HD enclosure, I suggest you to buy 3.5 inch since 3.5 in HD is much cheaper than 2.5 in HD.
