A dxf file is a "drawing exchange file" used with cad programs.

If you are using AutoCAD just type in dxfin in the command prompt and the regular dialog box will come up and then you can select the .dxf file from its location.

Or try downloading volo view from the autocad site
its a free viewer / printer for this format of file
