thanks, but it doesn't work

if I use WHERE FullName = [Input here:], and type John* or *john in the popup window, the query doesn't pull out anything. But if I don't use the popup window and directly write the SQL as WHERE FullName = '*john*', it pulls out all the names containing john.
could you find one way to do this but use the popup window to input john? thanks!
