some suggestions

1) Setup with the same workgroug name ie. mshome or workgroup
2) disable firewall in WinXP
3) share out some folders on both machines
4) run "ipconfig /all" to check IP address
5) ping each other to make sure connections established
6) last issue - load netbios to both W2k and WinXP (however there are some security concern)
