Can Smart Cutter convert MTS file to AVI file?

A research facility asks the "convert MTS files to AVI files" for some research recording files (each file may have 1.8 to 3 GB).  Can the "Smart Cutter" finally convert the MTS file to AVI format file? Many many thanks for advise!!!!!!!
