that CD is basically useless!

I never have the need to use the CD. Most likely your video card will over-run all the controls anyway.

I have a 25.5" Monitor/HDTV, 1920x1200, splendid!

If you can and your eye is not that good: no near sight nor far sight, get a 28" would be the maximum. Anything larger needs to have over 2100x1500 resolution.
