Video file format comparison.

I am trying to record TV programs using a TV tuner. The software offers different formats: DivX, DVD (MPG), prolonged DVD, SVCD or VCD. I would like to know which format between DivX and DVD has the highest video quality but small file size so that I can watch over a 54 Mbps wireless network. Thanks.
