What d'U mean by "low-end" XP?

Home Edition? If your "Z version" is not Professional, I doubt it would make any difference after re-install. Of course, if you format your HD and re-install or you upgrade from HE to Pro, it'll be another story. Same version re-install, you shouldn't lose what you've had.
