Help: USB Card reader problem

I could not have u***** 2.0 card reader installed. The computer will show the icon for less than one second and it disappears right away. (the speaker gives "ding dang" and "dang ding" sound as well). It keeps doing this until I pull it off the port. The card reader is a generic one. It does not come with a driver. Any idea to to solve this problem? Thanks.
