I am not sure if there is 64 windows live messenger or not, but let's just assume there is only 32 bit windows live messenger. The 32bit windows live messenger can run on 64bit windows vista machine using wow64 mode. Any 32 bit software can be installed and run on 64 bit Vista, that is what wow64 for.
