Pop AD ,Is it a virus?

My computer have download a software or virus, it's make my computer pup up ADs all the time when online,
I have read the post here which said download the spybot
or other software, I wonder is this a virus? Could I kill it?
If I don't discounected the computer ,it will pop up all night until my computer died.
