Another possibility is that your DVD writer

doesn't support DVD+RW because RW means rewritable (not just writable). Check your DVD spec to see what disc format it supports. Currently there are mainly four formats: DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW (there are more but not relevant here).
