This is a most welcome and anticipated volume in the fields of automata and cryptography. Tao is a pioneer in the nexus of these two fields. Until now, many results of his research have been only published locally, due to various international barriers; the international community benefited from just a small amount of his efforts. Arto Salomaa, a world-renowned member of the automata community, wrote the preface and felt “honored” to do so. Salomaa explains that he has been aware of Tao’s main contributions for nearly 20 years. Thus, this book should be considered a major work on these topics and is a must read for anyone active in these fields.
