It is called Midtown.

Downtown Houston is all office buildings and most shops cater to office workeers and are located UNDERGROUND between office towers. High security of the buildings to prevent panhandlers, street wanderers to get in. There is very little to sightsee in downtown.

Old Chinatown is near downtown. However, the Southwest area is the "real" place where local Chinese go to restaurants and shops.

Moodygarden is not a lot to see. Galveston - the beach is nothing to see - muddy black color beach - however, the strand is a touristy spot with lots of small shops. If you are looking for beach, you will be greatly disappointed.

Nasa and Space Center probably is the only place worth going in Houston.
