well, you probably are not qualify for short term disability leave since you have only worked for several weeks. Just as other said, do find a doctor and get it treated first. I think you still can work after the treatment. I have an American collegue just did and she returned back to work after several weeks.

Some company don't have limitaation of sick days in a year. But if at one time your sick day last longer than two weeks, you have to use STD for which you are not quilify. If your company is like this, you have to find out if it is possible that you get your treatment/operation and rest for 10 days and come back to work for a few days, then rest one or two weeks again. It certainly depends whether your management care about you are not and how sympathetic they are. Do talk to HR and your manager after you have several option in hand. Never ask for a solution from you manager, you need to prepare several solution for him to choose from. It works for work as well. Good luck!
