Agree! use this as an excuse to thank your boss,

getting closer to your boss. All bosses like their employees to be close to them . You can always find some reason to thank them and do something to show your appreciation!! This is a wonderful chance , you refused to take over the job you didn't like, your boss did not force you.  You need show how much you appreciate!!
