I have been working with PHP for about 5 years for a site with about 2M+ unique visitors per day. There are a lot more than just writing code, like application/database level clustering, SQL, NoSQL, disk/memory level caching, scaling, In general, I think developing .NET and PHP application should be the same though, sepration of control/modle/view logic, object, one big difference in PHP is that it doesn't share anything between requests.
