Hi, I have the same situation as you before.
1997 來美， 2000 got MS of Computer Science, then lost job at 2002, stayed home to take care family for almost 5 years.
2007(Nov) took QA classes and laotu's sql class. 2008(march) I found a QA position in a small company.
I am still working in the same company now.
Don't give up.
