office gossip

Please give me some advise.I've got into a situation which is so difficult to handle.

I am with the company for 6 month now. My boss is on vacation. His assistant (working in another city) called and asked me to do something. I said ok, but later found it is very confusing not as simple as she said. Since it was not my daily task, I was very cautious. Asked her to confirm if the step I took was good. She did not clarify. My boss said he would drop by to sign paper at night. so I left a note to him about it. He did not get back to me

Client then followed up about it to our office. The co-worker took the call and then phoned the assistant.

The phone conversation made me chilly.

She started by asking the assistant about the little project. the assistant of course said something. One line or two about the project.

Then I heard she said... oh, I am not saying anything. He did not want to see her or something.

She went on saying, I do get that feeling.

Then I heard "I wonder how long this will take to get there."

I felt chilly to my bones. I was angry although I did not show that. This is office allegation. I did ask the co-worker for a private chat. She did not want to come to my office. I then told her that it was personal. She came to my office. I started to ask her about the project and told her how I handled it. I then asked her if there is anything else about me. She said no. There is nothing about me. I told her that I never discussed about my private life with anybody. But I thought it was time for me to tell people I work with. Basically I told her my life and my focus on the career and courses I am taking (I am seperated from my ex for three years, back together but did not work.I also told her I do consider somebody in my life but not really having a serious relationship). I told her that I wrote down the phone conversation she had. If there was nothing about me, I was fine.

I hope that she has a good heart. She is very lousy at work. Gossip.

Next week, my boss will come back to work. How do I tell him? I can't predict about his reaction. Or should I tell him? I do not know how he would handle stuff like that. Nobody wants to be there for this.

Should I request a meeting with my boss and the owner of the company? I'd rather tell people by myself. I don't want the gossip to get to the higher level through grapevine.

Please give me something. I am so stressed out.
