请教改resume上 title的问题

曾在一公司做technical manager，职能类似于senior scientist。后来申请了几个senior scientist的position, 都没有结果, 感觉人家对我的technical capability 有疑问。请问我能不能在resume中把以前的title改成senior scientist。Background check会不会有问题。
