I would go for the middle city, especially if you two have kids. Life is short after all and all those titles, status would apprear unimportant in the long run.

Besides, Sancramento isn't a desirable city in CA any way. You two can try moving closer together to the bay area at a later time.

If there is still room, try to negotiate a better offer from your company. Of course, if your hubby's company can give you an offer, the soty would be different....
