(ZT) For unemployment: WIA program for Job training class
Dear All,
Recently many people call me and ask for detail of this program. I
would like to provide some info here. If you know some more info,
please reply to me also. You can forward to freinds that need it.
WIA stand for Work Improvement Act which is a federal prgram that
provide money to each state to help un-employment people re-educate
themself in the same job field. This program is not using for people
want to switch to different field. I heard there are some program for
that purpose but not familar with it.
Texas Workforce Commission handle this program in Texas for Federal
and you can go to any TWC in any city to get familiar with this
program. It is free seminar every week and for Plano it is on every
Thursday at 11:00am. The location is near northeast corner of Juipter
and Plano Parkway. However, I just talk to their counselor, their
appointment schedule are fully book till middle of July. So maybe you
need to go to TWC in other city such as Richardson, Garland or
Mckinney etc.

As software engineer and got layoff from Nortel last year, I took this
program since last November. When I applied, TWC told me that I can
apply to get one software related certificate. So I choose to take OCP
(Oracle Certified Professional) and I choose Techskills as my training
school. To my surprise, Techskills provide a different program called
IT extented and accepted by TWC. In this program, I can have two years
to study any software program I like. Therefore, it is much better
program for us. I can only speak for IT filed, there are some other
filed such as hardware, nurse program there.

The TWC counselor told me that there is no guarrany that any one can
get it and funding is limited also. Therefore, any one interested in
WIA program can just go there take the free seminar and make
appointment to talk to them.
Pray for those needed people can get in as soon as possible.
May God bless you!
