my assumption is that a fixed size of lawn always grows the same

sorry, I don't get your idea. I assumed that the rate of growing is fixed in a given size of lawn. X is defined as it takes x days for the grass to grow from empty to 1 (orginal amount). Do you suggest that after grass is eaten, it can't grow anymore or grow slower?
