One more thing

Don't give him chances (seems he already got them) to leave a wrong impression to other team members that you two are closer. That could cause others to distrust/resent you. Don't fall into his trap.

Treat him as fairly as others. But keep a close eye on him. During bad times, those are the least trustworthy animals.
