Accountant is really just a general title for anyone working in the accounting profession. In my company, both AP and AR are called accountant. So it does not matter what the title is. If you are looking for jobs, I would suggest you can look for both bookkeeper and accountant. I know in some small company, a bookkeep works not only on the daily transactions, keeping the right records but also preparing the journal entries and financial statements as well as some analysis work. So it can be really valuable work and add in a shining point to your resume.
All in all, Don't get scared by the job title, or job deion. The first job I got after getting out of school required two years of MFG experiences. The interviewer wil make a good judgement if you can do the job or not. I did an excellent job and got a promotion three months after joining the company. We are living in a ever-changing society, now matter what your background is, you always have to expect to learn the new financial system, software, process, procedure...

Work hard, keep learning and go after your dream. Good luck!
