It doesn't matter what other people think. What do you think? The key here is what kind of life style do you enjoy? Charlotte is a nice place, not very expensive, warm in the winter but hot and humid in the summer. People there are laid back and nice. New York is quite the opposite, very dynamic but very demanding environment. You'll have much more cultural experiences in New York if that's something important to you. I happen to have a friend working for Bloomberg, she lives in Conneticut, commuting 1.5 hours each way, most people won't enjoy it but she loves it and doesn't think her work load is too much.
