My friend's wife is Brazilian. They said do NOT go to Brazil

They live in NYC.  The wife is a prominent plastic surgeon who still has large extended families in Brazil.

Her extended families ALL have been robbed multiple times and they are the LOCALS. 

Of course she is from a relative wealthy family, therefore their view points may not be the same as you being a tourist.
