日本国（Japan），简称日本，首都东京都。是位于太平洋西岸由东北向西南延伸的弧形岛国。陆地面积约37.8万平方公里，包括北海道、本州、四国、九州四个大岛和其它6800多个小岛屿。截至2025年11月，总人口为1亿2319万人。据日本出入国在留管理厅统计，截至2022年底，在日中国人为818857人（其中，中国台湾地区57294人）。

日本自然资源贫乏，除少量矿产资源以外，其他工业生产所需的主要原料、燃料等都要从海外进口。渔业资源丰富，北海道和日本海是世界著名的大渔场，盛产700多种鱼类。日本的植物种类繁多，在日本本土生长着约5560种植物。日本的大小岛屿上同样也栖息着源于各种不同气候类型的动物：东南亚的热带动物、韩国和中国的温带动物、以及西伯利亚的亚北极动物。

主要景点：富士山、东京铁塔、金阁寺、银阁寺、唐招提寺、大阪城、阿苏火山、台场、浅草寺。

日本从1950年起发行生肖邮票，是世界上最早发行生肖邮票的国家。
