good questions! Let me give them a try
Americans embrace american values and principals. Right! And some of the very important American values are individuality, freedom and diversity. I feel very relevant in the society. However, I do live in the culturely diverse Bay Area. People from mid-west might feel differently. To be an American, you don't have to look American or behave American. As a matter of fact, I don't believe there is such thing as American look or American behavior.
I don't watch ball games often. Nor do I watch Chinese soap operas on TV, which one could if one wants to in Bay Area. I do cheer for any Bay Area teams though if I happen to watch them. When I watch Olympics, I cheer for American teams when Chinese teams are not involved, and Chinese teams when they do. I hope China and US never go into war against each other. I think even I live in China, I would still hate to see such war. Don't you agree?
As I said I am not a big fan of sports, but I do enjoy a lot of local cultural events like concerts, plays, dances. I have involved in various local choirs, dance groups, and community activities, and I find plenty of Asians and "white" Americans who share my interests. I feel I don't have to be a "white" Asian to be accepted into American society.
I am proud of my Chinese heritage and proud of the progress my home country has made so far. I also enjoy my life and career achievement here in US. I feel I have settled here comfortably.
One thing I miss though is my family in China. They are more comfortable where they have lived for decades and too old to adapt to a new enviroment. I try to visit them as often as I can and they come over to stay with us almost every year. But as they age, things can be more difficult. We will just have to take each challenge as it comes.
