That is because you do not speak out!
Those who take themselves as second class citizens lack the courage to speak out. America is not pure white, all its citizens have impact to the mainstream of this country, not to mention that many Asians hold high executive and managerial positions.
We have a coffee party every morning in my office. I am the only Asian, all other colleagues are white or black. We chat on news, families, and exchange jokes. I did not find my self know much less than others. It was true that I did not know where the “real McCoy” came from, but so did most others.
Asians are playing a bigger role in the U.S. mainstream. Here is a sample. Dr. Jen is a retiring Under Secretary of U. S. Department of Agriculture. He is a Chinese. His soft voice is not any bit weaker than a white man because of his skin color. In fact, it echoes loud in Bush's administration and other U.S. government offices. His latest work is the China Garden at the U.S. National Arboretum (http://www.usna.usda.gov), which awaits the final budget approval from the Congress. Think about it, if you do not speak out, the project will not realize itself no matter how great your idea is.
See it for yourself that you voice is being heard. Write a personal letter to the Congress for their support for the future classical Chinese garden! Here is an online letter (http://uschinagarden.org/ToCongress.html) that you can simply fill in your name and address. When you send it, you voice is heard by the congress and you will receive a return letter from the congress members. Your action counts!
