Metro service on the Red Line has returned to normal after police found no evidence of a bomb at the Rockville Metro station Monday morning.

The station, located at 250 Rockville Pike, closed for nearly two hours, after a woman disembarking a train declared there was a bomb inside a rail car at around 7:45 a.m. Monday, said Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority spokeswoman Taryn McNeil.

Metro Transit Police and Montgomery County Police officers inspected the station and found no evidence of an explosive device, she said.

The woman who reported the threat has been taken into police custody and transported to a local hospital, where she will undergo a mental health evaluation, WMATA spokesman Dan Stessel said.

Stessel could not provide further details on the woman.

WMATA officials did not believe the threat to be legitimate, but took necessary precautions, Stessel said before 9 a.m. Monday, while the station was closed.

While police investigated the threat, rail service on the Red Line between the Shady Grove and Grosvenor Metro stations was temporarily suspended, with shuttle buses are transporting Metro riders between them, Stessel said.

Criminal charges against the woman who reported the threat are pending.
