HK might be possible, but mainland China is out of the question
He's been to Asian a couple of times, and he hates Taipei, dislikes Singapore, and does not like SH much, either. He like HK, but he said it will be fun to visit, but hard to make it a long term destination, cuz he will not fit well there ----------
He said, his knowledge about politics, movies, sports, wines, etc. which all make him a good banker/conversation points here in the US are useless in HK, because HK is small and firms are all targeting China for revenues. PLus, not speaking Chinese will exclude him from many client-facing jobs. In addition, it is competitive in HK now as well, you have to be there and pounding the pavement day after day to meet people (like my friend suggested me do in China) in order to get a job.
He said it is not like the Mkt is great there. If it is, maybe. But both US and Asia are hurtuing, and he'd rather be in the US, because here is his network and friends and where he belongs to. Also we are not early 20s fresh grad and it makes sense to get int'l exp for a yr or two. We are in our 30s and will have kids soon, and he absolutely does not want his kids grow up in Asia. (A bit anal, I know.)
