The problem is, if he's a responsible man he should not
risk his family's future, especially his children's. He is in no position to judge what's the best for everyone else except for himself. And I'd say staying in Canada is definitely better for his kids. That's why he did not say anything about it for a long time. He'd probably been thinking about this issue for a while. But he did what seemed right to him. The best thing to do now is to learn to enjoy what you have chosen. The wife is trying to help on that but apparently she didn't know how.
The bottom line is, when people make choices they have to give up something for something else. No one can get everything. That's life.
