how the heck can it be? did the engine die on him?

Manual tranmission as long as the clutch not slipping doesn't stop driving the wheels. Now the car is not moving but the engine still turning, where did the turning torque go?

Don't tell me the engine is not powerfull enough to pull the car under pressed down throttle.
