Additives are chemicals critical to engine oil

The base oil stock is only 80 to 85% of the engine oil. The rest of the volume is filled by additive chemicals such as viscosity modifiers, emulsifiers, friction reducers, etc. Each oil manufacturer has its own formulation and may not be compatible with another manufacturer's formulation. Never mix different brand oil together and causing troubles to your engine!
